IN THE NEWS: The Orange County Register examined whether or not iPads and other electronic readers put strain on users’ eyes. Soon after the incoming class of students at UC Irvine’s medical school received free iPads last summer, some noted that the devices occasionally strained their eyes.
“We are at the very beginning of the development of these devices. It’s a new frontier,” said Dr. Wade Crow, an ophthalmologist at UCI’s Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, who has submitted a grant proposal to study the effects of the iPad on eye health, using those same med students as subjects.
